It's almost comical—women, who give life to these knuckleheads, are often the last to be included in studies and tech developments that could improve our health. This feels like both negligence and outdated thinking. And in a world that's rapidly advancing, we shouldn't still be dealing with this. But, who knows—maybe change is on the horizon.
AI is increasingly being used in hospitals and health tech, but the tech still faces serious challenges when it comes to accurately diagnosing and treating women. For example, AI models used in diagnosing heart disease and managing pain have been trained mostly on male data, leading to a bias that disproportionately affects women.
Women’s symptoms for heart attacks often present differently from men’s, yet AI systems that rely on male-dominated datasets are more likely to misdiagnose or misunderstand these symptoms. This can lead to dangerous consequences, especially when it comes to life-threatening health conditions.
🚀 My Take: The solution here seems straightforward. If we want AI to work better for women, we need more women in the field programming and developing these systems. As businesses and developers, we also need to do better in appealing to women as a key audience. It’s not just about fixing the system—it’s about ensuring that women have a seat at the table when it comes to tech innovation, especially in healthcare.
